Farset Barcode Scanner, Wired Connection:The box it arrived in was somewhat crushed, but the scanner inside was in a bubblewrap bag and appeared fine. Included in the box were the scanner, a power cord, and a list of QR codes and their functions. There were no instructions on how to actually set up and use the scanner, so I had to work it out by trial and error and the internet. You plug one end of the cord into the scanner and the other into a USB port on a computer. Then, open a blank text document on your computer, scan a code with the scanner by hovering its face over the code and pressing the trigger, and the code will appear in the text file. From there, you manually enter whatever data you want associated with the code (e.g., Book Title, Author, Publisher, Publication Date, etc., for an ISBN code). Or, there are sites online where you can look up the code and copy the data from there. I ordered this so I could begin inventorying my books. Hopefully, this will speed up the process somewhat.

It automatically shuts off after a configurable period of inactivity but starts up immediately when turned back on again.Scanning is very quick, but I was unable to get it to read 2D barcodes/ QR codes or barcodes on a computer monitor or phone screen. I had no issue scanning any 1D barcode I tried that was not on a screen. The maximum scanning distance it's reliable at is about a foot or so, and it can scan at a pretty significant angle. When you push the button to scan, it projects a line at whatever you're pointing at for aiming purposes.Pairing to my PC via Bluetooth was very easy and it worked immediately after pairing.The device is configured via scanning codes in the instruction manual, which includes configuration values for various modes of communication, turning on and off storage mode (which stores barcodes that can be later dumped to a computer by scanning another code), configuring how barcodes are separated when dumped to a computer as text (CR+LF, just CR, just LF, TAB), inactivity timeout delay, and resetting to factory settings.Given how important these codes are to the device's functionality, I would have liked for the manual containing them to be made of more robust material; it's not made of tissue paper, but it's not more durable than normal paper either and it's already showing wear from folding and unfolding after just a few uses. The codes that control settings don't get input to the computer, either, so they're not easily reproducible.Overall, it's very good for what it is but the claim of supporting 2D/QR codes doesn't hold up. If you need a portable 1D barcode scanner as an input device for your machine, it's great. If you'll be reconfiguring it often or using storage mode, you'll want to find some way to preserve the control codes.
